The 45,000 sq.ft. Grand Island Law Enforcement Center was unique not only in its shape but also by the fact that it is occupied by the by both the Hall County Sheriff Department and the Grand Island Police Department. Therefore, redundancy of the electrical and HVAC systems was important to minimize the potential for a building shutdown during an emergency event. The $7,200,000 project included amenities that were added to make a comfortable work environment including indirect lighting, individual temperature control, covered patios and windows in all offices. Although the design was not intended to be LEED certified the final product satisfied several LEED prerequisites. It contains holding cells, locker rooms, offices, training rooms, processing areas and sallyport. The electrical service for the building is provided with complete N+1 backup in case of power failure. BGR Consulting Engineers provided mechanical, plumbing, electrical and low voltage cabling design for the project.
